Remove Ads and Enhance Your YouTube Experience with uBlock Origin Chrome Extension

Very much needed

I use this extension to block various features of YouTube, such as disabling comments and the related videos section, thereby preventing me from going down a YouTube rabbit hole.

It was so great, even though some functionalities stopped working since it wasn't regularly updated... You can have a look at the other comments to still be able to use it. Otherwise, I found these solutions as replacement: - ProdYouTivity (very clean and works great) - Unhook (very popular) - Youtube-shorts block (if you just want to remove shorts) Hoping these can also help you :)

Wow!! So much better YouTube seems to have made its algorithm especially pernicious in the recent weeks. So grateful for this extension. Please see the comment about how you can still install this.

This is a very good extension, but Google doesn't like it, so here's what you need to do, since it hasn't been removed or even properly blocked First, right click the add to chrome button (or whatever is replacing it), then click Inspect Next, click the highlighted "div" section and then search for "disabled" Once you get here, double click the word and write "enabled" in its place This will enable the ability to download the extension until you refresh the page. NOTE: This also works with adblockers, so make sure to get ublock back in your list of extensions EDIT: If Chrome reccomends you remove it, don't do so, as it isn't malicious or unsupported, just not what Google intended you to do (they want you to be distracted so they get their ad revenue up).

An excellent extension that worked well for yearsl! However, it's not maintained anymore and I can't block YT Shorts. I created an extension called "Intentional - Block distracting websites", which fully supports the updated layout. Feel free to check it out.

great extension, however Chrome is now recommending I remove it because 'the developer isn't following best practices for Chrome' even though they state in the description what their policies are on privacy. Please update your great extension it has allowed me to focus so much better on YT, thank you for your work!

five stars for the app, 0 stars to the Alphabet company that is enforcing enshittification on us by forcing us to listen to non-stop ads and use the algorithms it damn well knows lead to content promoting the alt-right, that sexualizes children, and that is designed in general to make us less in control of our own computers. Read Cory Doctorow and Ed Zitron, then ask yourself this: why would Google Chrome so badly need the ad revenue generated on YouTube when they're both part of a company with a 2.2 trillion market cap and gets over 100 billion in revenue each year (while saving billions in tax revenue by lobbying for tax cuts for large companies) that it has to disable a YouTube blocker extension? If you already have this extension, it still works. You know what my kids get exposed to when wanting to hear Taylor Swift songs? Just the Taylor Swift songs they chose. No playlists, no ads, no recommendations -- they get to hear the music they want to hear.

Many features don't work... I saw it hasn't been updated since 2019!! Using ProdYouTivity instead which also has a remove shorts option.

It prevents recommended videos from popping up in the video screen when the video ends, but there are still recommended videos below it. I wonder if google making changes to chrome recently has something to do with that. That and them changing how YT looks again, because everybody was really asking for that...

I love this plugin, and would love one new feature! Suppress youtube shorts. Shorts is like a distraction virus robbing attention and preventing any meaningful consumption of content on youtube. PLEASE PLEASE block youtube shorts!

Please Please don't remove it, I watch plenty of YouTube videos (even with this turned on) - so hopefully Google won't cause it to disappear. But the reason I do use it, is because if I am working on a client project and need to watch their videos, I can't afford to get distracted in the process. It really helps with that!

I recommend accompanying this with a custom uBlock Origin filter. There's a tutorial called Remove Youtube Shorts by chris titus or otherwise `ublock-hide-yt-shorts` by `gijsdev` on github.

can we add support to block YT shorts everywhere?

According to Youtube this is an adblocker and won't let you see any videos (YT reaching new lows ofc) What worked for me: - Get ublock origin and configure it to bypass the popup - Then right click every element you don't like to block it forever - Press the blue power button to switch that on and off - Success (rn this extension is 100% useless)

Great Extension but I wish there was a feature to lock the settings for a period of time so the settings can't be changed easily.
